Although, people often mix up but anxiety and stress are two different conditions. It is true that sometimes it’s hard to differentiate or determine as both have similar symptoms. In some cases, the cause of anxiety and stress is the same. Anxiety itself can also be a cause of stress as being anxious can make one stressed out. On the hand, stress also can be a reason for anxiety. If you are under stress for a long time it can make you anxious. It must be noted that the condition of stress is ever classified as a mental disorder but anxiety without any valid cause comes under mental disorder.

Stress can happen due to many factors. It can happen because of work pressure, relationship problems, anger, sorrow, frustration and even anxiety. Stress can lead to some physical discomforts such as headache, fatigue, muscle tension and psychological problems such as confusion and lack of concentration. Stress is body’s response or reaction to a certain situation. Both physical and emotional aspects can cause stress. Some of the most common sources of stress are internal stress, environmental stress, survival stress and fatigue. Normal stress is not bad for the health but chronic stress can lead to many serious health problems.

Anxiety is difference from the stress. It is more about fear or feeling of fear. Sometimes anxiety can happen without any reason. People get distressed and uneasy without knowing the source of this uneasiness. Anxiety is much more complex than stress. That’s why it comes under mental disorders. It is a disorder that is associated with nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. Five major types of anxiety disorders are: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Social Phobia (or Social Anxiety Disorder) or SAD. Just like stress symptoms of anxiety can be both physical and cognitive. They are including muscle tension, fatigue, high heartbeat, nausea and headache. In the case of anxiety, people face the same concentration problem as they face it when they are stressed.

Stress is a mental state or condition. But anxiety is a mental disorder. Anxiety management is extremely important to handle anxiety successfully. Anxiety can come into your life at any time. Stress and anxiety is part of our life. But if anxiety becomes more frequent and starts to take control of your life then you should seek for medical health for anxiety management.

Treatment of anxiety and stress are different. Stress can be treated by stress management, relaxation, meditation and by eliminating the cause of stress. Treatment of anxiety requires more medical intervention along with anxiety management. Certain medications can be needed in the treatment of anxiety.

It should be noted that one should avoid certain things like caffeine, chocolate, alcohol and smoking to treat or reduce the effects of stress and anxiety.
